Article Description: This a great article with ways to keep your self safe on the internet.
Make sure you email this link to everyone you know, this is the one instance when
ignorance is not bliss. All of the protection tools listed below can be
found on our Tech Tools page.

  1. BE PARANOID ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU DO ONLINE!
  2. DO NOT ACCESS YOUR ONLINE BANKING WEBSITE IF YOU HAVE ANY STRANGE ACTIVITY ON YOUR COMPUTER!
  3. Only visit websites you know and trust.
  4. NEVER click any flashy banner ads on websites or pop-up windows.
  5. Never use FREE File Sharing (P2P Networking) programs like Limewire, BearShare, Groukster, etc... Only use trusted Music/Movie downloading programs that you pay for like iTunes, Rhapsody. These programs are trusted and own rights to sell you the media files, they on protected servers and virus/spy-ware protected.
  6. Stay off of MySpace.com! MySpace in combination with free file sharing programs are the many way that viruses are spreading on the internet lately. People are putting virus infected music on their MySpace page as their background music and it automatically gives you the virus just by loading the page.
  7. Have a trusted Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware program installed, updated, and protecting your computer. AVG Free Anti-virus is the least amount of protection you would want to have running on your system. Trend Micro Anti-Virus and Webroot Spysweeper are two of the best I have found and run great together as long as you do not run the Trend Micro Anti-Virus plus Anti-Spyware version.
  8. Be religious with checking or protection programs status and, manually telling it to run scans at least once a weekly. If you neglect it you will probably loss everything.
  9. Run Adware2007 removing everything include MRU lists. Delete all temporary internet files once a week. It aslo helps with overall system performance if you run the Disk Cleanup & Disk Defragmenter Utilities once per week.
  10. Once you see the viruses/spyware visibly on your computer, will icons on your desktop and pop-ups even when the internet windows is closed it is probably to late so be prepared for the worst. ***Always keep ceurrent backups of your data in at least two places. (ex: External Hard USB Memory Key, DVD-/+R/RW, whatever you find simplest to remember.***
