How to manually remove the Sasser virus!

***This is a step by step guide on cleaning the Sasser virus off your system. This tutorial is for users of Windows 2000/XP. Since the Sasser virus does Not usually affect other Operating Systems.***

  1. First with need to unplug you Network or Phone cable from your system to avoid it autoconnecting and shutting down your computer or reinfecting your computer while trying to remove it. After you have removed your internet connection cable. Restart your system and tap on the F8 key till you see a screen that says "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Once at that screen use the arrow keys on your keyboard and move UP or Down until it is highlighted on just regular Safe Mode. Then press ENTER
  2. Now it will go to a screen that says "Please select the Operating System to Start" it should already be highlighted on "Microsoft Windows XP" just press ENTER. Now it will go to a screen with a long list of "Multi Disk[0]...." just let it go and it will start up to the Safe Mode user logon screen. Click on the user name "Administrator" to login. It will then give you an alert window saying that the system is currently running in Safe Mode. Just click "Yes" to continue running in safe mode.
  3. Once at the desktop click the START and goto Search. As shown below.


  4. Look on the left toolbar and click on Search for All Files and Folders. Make sure that it is set to search in Local Hard Drives (C:). Then in the "All or Part of the file name" type in avserv*. Click search...

  5. Select anything that starts with avserv and delete them.
  6. Search for a delete anything that starts with skynetave.
  7. After that close the search window. Next click the START then click RUN and type in "regedit". Click Ok or Open. Once the Registery Editor is open click the plus symbol next to each once of these categories on the left navigation bar.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    • Software
    • Microsoft
    • Windows
    • CurrentVersion

      Now scroll down and click on the RUN folder in the left navigation bar so it is highlighted. Then look to the list in the frame on the right. Look for anything named AVSERV, AVSERV2, or LASASSS



    • Now Restart the system, and it should run great. Have a nice day! :)
